We ordered wood to make violins from Tonewood in Slovakia, and it arrived just before the end of the year. Technically it was supposed to be delivered tomorrow, but I was so excited that I went to pick it up.
Only the fingerboard was obtained separately, so the contents included are as follows.
- Spruce for the Front, the Block, the Bass Bar and Lining
- Maple for the Back and the Neck
- The Purflings
- The Nut and the Saddle
So I need to split the top plate and back plate into two pieces myself. And that square timber becomes the neck’s scroll… It’s more like sculpture than instrument making, isn’t it?
Now I can start making the violin! 🎻 … Well, not quite yet 😅
Since this is my first time making a violin, there’s a high probability of failure, so I think I’ll practice with different wood first.
Also, I need to gather a few more tools, so I’ll continue my research.
バイオリンを製作するための材木を、スロバキアのTonewoodさんに注文し、年終わりギリギリで到着🛬しました。正確には明日の配達でしたが、楽しみすぎたので取りに行きました。
指板だけは別から入手したので、含まれていた内容は以下のとおり。
- 表板
- 裏板
- ネック
- ブロック
- バスバーライニング
- パーフリング
- ナット、サドル
表板と裏板は自分で２つに切らないといけないのですね。あの角材がネックの渦巻きになるのか…楽器というか、彫刻ですね。
さあこれでバイオリン🎻製作に取りかかれます！！

とはいかないんですよね😅
初めてのバイオリン製作なので失敗する確率は高いと思われるので、まずは別の材木で練習をしようと思います。
あと、道具ももう少し集めないといけないので引き続きリサーチします。
